Typically referred to as antivirus or antimalware, these products detect or search for malicious software or code on devices, or remove or quarantine it, in order to maintain the integrity, confidentiality or availability of those devices. Malicious software means software containing malicious features or capabilities that may directly or indirectly harm users or computer systems, such as viruses, worms, ransomware, spyware and trojans. The category covers real-time and on-demand scanning software, rootkit detection tools and rescue disks whose core function is searching for, removing or quarantining malicious software.
